At least three people were killed and seven others injured—some critically—after a gunman opened fire at a busy In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to reports of an active shooter around 2:30 p.m. at the restaurant located on Blue Lakes Boulevard North, situated within a high-traffic shopping plaza. Responding officers located the body of the suspected gunman nearby. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the suspect’s body is included in the initial fatality count.

Emergency Response and Witness Accounts

According to witnesses, chaos broke out inside and outside the establishment as customers and employees scrambled for safety. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a suspect armed with an AR-style rifle emerge near the drive-thru area before gunfire erupted. An armed civilian at the scene reportedly engaged the shooter with a handgun before law enforcement arrived.

“We believe the threat to the community is over,” Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said during a press briefing, describing the initial response area as a complex and chaotic scene.

Multiple victims were transported to St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries. Hospital officials confirmed the facility went on temporary visitor restrictions while emergency department personnel treated incoming patients.

Investigation Ongoing

Twin Falls Public Information Officer Josh Palmer stated that law enforcement is working to identify the gunman and establish a motive. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined local and state agencies to assist in processing the scene and conducting witness interviews.

The location had opened just over a week prior, marking one of the brand’s newest locations in Idaho. Authorities have lifted initial shelter-in-place advisories for surrounding businesses, though nearby roadways remained closed into Saturday evening as forensic teams completed their preliminary investigation.
