Web-slinging back into theaters, Spider-Man: Brand New Day made history over the weekend, delivering a massive $355 million in North American ticket sales. The astonishing performance marks the second-biggest domestic opening of all time, coming in just shy of Avengers: Endgame’s $357 million record set in 2019.

The Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios release exceeded initial studio projections of $325 million after launching with an all-time opening day record of $168 million on Friday. Globally, the blockbuster generated an estimated $572 million across 73,500 screens in overseas markets, driving its worldwide debut to a staggering $927 million.

A Record-Setting Weekend for Cinemas

The return of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker helped propel the North American box office to its highest-grossing weekend in history, accumulating roughly $430 million in total ticket sales. The frame surpassed the previous record of $402 million set during Endgame’s release weekend.

Held over from the previous weeks, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey took second place with $51 million, crossing $395 million domestically and $911 million worldwide.

“This is a truly phenomenal opening, and we are grateful to audiences everywhere for coming out and experiencing our film the way it was meant to be seen,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige in a statement celebrating the weekend totals.

Strong Audience Engagement

Exits polls conducted by PostTrak indicated widespread audience enthusiasm, earning the film an “A” CinemaScore and a 98% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Ticket buyers skewed young and male, with 61% identifying as male and over half of the audience under the age of 25.

Industry analysts estimate that more than 24 million moviegoers attended screenings across the U.S. and Canada over the three-day period. Final weekend tallies reported on Monday could potentially push the film past Endgame to claim the all-time domestic crown depending on actual Sunday receipts.
