Authorities in Eastern Washington have arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of arson for allegedly setting one of three wildfires that have been burning through the Spokane area.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that 37-year-old Aaron Farinacci was taken into custody and charged with first-degree arson. A judge set his bail at $1 million during an initial court appearance, with further proceedings scheduled for Tuesday.

Investigation and Arrest

Detectives with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office identified Farinacci as a suspect following an investigation into the origin of the fires that erupted across the region.

While multiple blazes have impacted eastern Washington over recent days, investigators believe Farinacci intentionally started at least one of the active fires currently being battled by local and regional emergency crews.

Ongoing Wildfire Threat

Firefighters continue to work toward containment on the three active blazes surrounding Spokane, which have threatened structures and prompted localized safety warnings and evacuations.

Authorities have not disclosed a potential motive for the alleged arson, and law enforcement officials stated that the joint investigation remains active and ongoing.
