A 3-year-old South Florida girl died four days after getting her head stuck inside a toy kitchen playset while at a babysitter’s residence, authorities announced.

Officers with the Boynton Beach Police Department responded to the home on the morning of July 23 following an emergency call regarding an unresponsive toddler. According to investigators, the child and her sibling were in the care of the babysitter’s spouse after the primary babysitter left the residence. The spouse was upstairs periodically checking on the children and providing snacks while they played downstairs.

During one of those checks, the spouse discovered the child trapped inside the play kitchen, freed her, and initiated life-saving measures. The toddler’s sibling told detectives that the girl was attempting to retrieve toys that had fallen inside the playset when she became stuck.

First responders arrived at the scene and administered CPR before transporting the girl in critical condition to a local hospital, where she died on July 27. Police noted that no charges have been filed as the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
