Los Angeles County health officials warned Wednesday that visitors to Universal Studios Hollywood late last month may have been exposed to measles after an infected individual attended the theme park.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is investigating the case involving a visitor who was at the park on Sunday, July 26, between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Public health authorities are working to determine whether additional locations within the county were also exposed.

Anyone who visited Universal Studios Hollywood during that window is urged to review their vaccination records and monitor for symptoms through August 16. Health officials noted that individuals who have received the recommended two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine or who have previously had measles are likely protected, but should remain vigilant. Unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status face a significantly higher risk of infection.

A spokesperson for Universal Studios Hollywood confirmed the park is fully cooperating with local health authorities. “The safety and security of our guests and team members is our highest priority,” the company said in a statement.

Symptoms of measles typically appear seven to 21 days after exposure and include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash that spreads from the face down the body. Public health officials advise anyone experiencing symptoms to stay home and contact a healthcare provider before visiting a clinic or emergency room to avoid further spreading the highly contagious virus.

The warning comes amid a national surge in cases. According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 2,300 measles cases have been recorded across the country this year, marking the highest annual total reported in the U.S. since 1991. Over 90 percent of nationwide cases have occurred in individuals who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown.
