Gunfire erupted during the closing hours of a popular annual food festival beneath Seattle’s Space Needle on Sunday evening, leaving three people dead and four others wounded, including a toddler.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the shooting occurred around six o’clock in the evening at the Seattle Center grounds during the Bite of Seattle festival. Investigators believe two individuals began shooting at each other in the middle of the crowded venue.

Police arrested one suspect at the scene, while a second suspect fled and remains at large. Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis stated that officers recovered weapons at the scene and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third died after being transported to a local hospital. Four additional victims—including a two-year-old boy—were hospitalized in stable condition suffering from gunshot wounds.

The sudden gunfire sparked mass panic across the festival grounds, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Witnesses described crowds dropping to the ground and fleeing into neighboring buildings, including the Seattle Children’s Museum and the Space Needle lobby, as vendors abandoned their stalls. Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies are continuing to search for the outstanding suspect and investigate the cause of the altercations.
