A homicide investigation is underway in Kansas after two individuals arrived at a local fire station carrying a suitcase containing the body of a missing 67-year-old woman.
The Wichita Police Department responded to Wichita Fire Station 22 on Hydraulic Avenue around 6:25 p.m. Wednesday after fire personnel reported that two people had walked up to the station with a suitcase, claiming a deceased person was inside. Officers opened the luggage and located the victim, identified as Lorretta Moody, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Moody had previously been reported missing to law enforcement. Her body was transferred to the Sedgwick County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
Detectives immediately brought in the two individuals who delivered the suitcase for questioning. Authorities are currently working to determine the exact relationship between the duo and the victim, as well as how Moody came to be placed inside the suitcase.
Police emphasized that no arrests have been made as of Friday, but investigators do not believe there is an active threat to the general public. Detectives are continuing to interview potential witnesses, collect evidence, and canvas nearby neighborhoods to construct a detailed timeline of events.
