US envoys Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Moscow in renewed push for Ukraine peace deal

Senior U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, launching a renewed White House effort to jumpstart stalled negotiations over the war in Ukraine.

The delegation was greeted at the airport by Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev before traveling into the capital for high-level Kremlin talks. President Donald Trump confirmed the mission on Friday, stating the envoys are carrying a concrete proposal intended to break a multi-year diplomatic impasse.

Ahead of the talks, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announced that Putin ordered Russian forces to temporarily halt air strikes on Kyiv for three days starting at midnight. The announcement followed calls from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a mutual pause in long-range strikes to guarantee safe transit for the American diplomatic team.

The high-stakes trip comes after weeks of heavy aerial bombardment, including a Russian strike targeting Kyiv’s security service headquarters and recent drone attacks near the capital’s airports.

Witkoff and Kushner are scheduled to travel from Moscow to Kyiv on Sunday to present the White House initiative directly to President Zelenskyy. The trip marks their first visit to the Ukrainian capital since joining the administration’s peace initiative.
