Los Angeles County prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Nick Reiner in the fatal stabbing of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced Tuesday.

If convicted on two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances—including multiple murders and lying in wait—the 33-year-old faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. D.A. Hochman confirmed the decision was reached after a comprehensive evaluation of mitigating factors, consultation with law enforcement and senior prosecutors, and input from the victims’ surviving children.

Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to the charges stemming from the December 2025 attack at his parents’ Brentwood home. He remains held without bail as court proceedings continue regarding the potential unsealing of grand jury transcripts ahead of trial.
